GIAB Progress

Had a good meeting with Harald at lunch and sorted out last preparations - printing of signage, collecting catalogues, collecting the banner, dress code for GIAB team etc

Unfortunately the Mitchell library has to close at 5pm on Friday so we have had to bring Benedict's talk forward so it will now start at 3:30pm and finish at approximately 4:45pm. Further discussion will take place at the pub! Email: market@marketgallery.org.uk to reserve a place.

Demand for the workshops has been overwhelming, and all 3 workshops are now fully booked.

I then spent the afternoon in the wood workshop making GIAB sandwich boards to have outside the venue.

As I was walking to the GIAB volunteer meeting I stopped at a few places to drop off some more GIAB postcards (they are everywhere!)

Tonight I met with some of the wonderful GIAB volunteers to go through volunteer roles and availability etc. It is really good that we have a team of helpers to aid in the smooth running of this event.

I also found out that we are featured in a French online artists book journal http://fr.etapes.com/giab-2012 Hopefully we are also get a mention in the English version so keep your eyes peeled.

Exciting times!

Art Lending Library

I have just watched the latest episode of The Culture Show and was very interested to see the feature about the Art Lending Library that has been organised by Market Gallery, and will be taking place at The Mitchell Library, Glasgow during Glasgow International.

Catch the episode on BBC iplayer now:

I am delighted that Market Gallery invited me and other GIAB 2012 participants to contribute to the publication library that will accompany the Art Lending Library.

Tunnel Books

I have been trying to extend my skills at making different types of artists book, and have recently become a fan of tunnel books.

I enjoy the layered nature of the book and how it becomes rather sculptural.

I hope to exhibit some of my new tunnel books at Glasgow International Artists Bookfair (GIAB) 2012

Working on some new artist books

As I am busy organising Glasgow International Artists Bookfair 2012 (GIAB 2012), I have been trying to get a chance to make some of my own books to exhibit at the event.

I have used the concertina style book for a work that exists in stages. The drawing on the initial page consists of one line, and with each following page another line is added to the drawing.

GIAB 2012

Save the date : Saturday 28th & Sunday the 29th April 2012.

Glasgow International Artists Bookfair will be held again in 2012 at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

GIAB is a showcase of artists’ books produced by local, UK-based and international artists. Books as artworks, books about books, books about bookbinding, old-style letterpress books, audio books, funny & weird books and even books with nothing in them can be seen and bought.

It is a rare opportunity to access such artworks, meet the creators and purchase some original artworks, without breaking the bank.

There will also be the possibility of participating in bookbinding workshops.

Harald and I are busy working on the organisation of GIAB 2012, so keep checking http://www.giab.org.uk/ for updates
